Tim Walz Sticks Landing on Surprisingly Tasteful Tupac Costume

WASHINGTON, DC – Vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz made a stir on the campaign trail this week after pulling off a remarkably tasteful Halloween costume of rapper Tupac Shakur.

Though campaign managers had privately asked Mr. Walz to change his costume idea, he held firm on the decision, stating “I’ve dressed as the great Makaveli for over 14 years now, there’s no way I’d quit for some silly gosh-darn election!” Staffers were initially wary that the costume would send the Harris-Walz campaign into a PR tailspin, however, attendees reported that the former senator’s depiction of the late rapper was an authentic and well-thought-out portrayal of the artist’s complex legacy.

Walz was sighted in the costume at a campaign fundraising party, during which he carried an oversized boombox and regaled those present with thoughtful, heartfelt covers of the late rapper’s seminal works. Rachel Sternham, a senior spokeswoman for the Walz campaign, said “I have an absolute, zero-tolerance policy against cultural appropriation and was ardently against this proposition… but this guy really pulled it off somehow. His rendition of ‘Me Against the World’ made me cry. It was beautiful.” The costume was reportedly comprised of authentic memorabilia already owned by the Minnesotan governor, who claimed to be a “devout, reverent man of Shakur’s legacy.”

In a statement, the ACLU voiced a surprising vote of support for the costume: “Though Mr. Walz took a risk with his depiction of the late Mr. Shakur, his careful consideration of the multi-faceted elements of Mr. Shakur’s life and work are a sign of positive change in an increasingly polarized political landscape. We honestly couldn’t find a single thing wrong with it, and believe us: we looked.”
J.D. Vance also miraculously avoided criticism for his depiction of Mr. Yunioshi, from the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Mostly because he was not invited to any Halloween parties.
